    Joining 2 drain snakes together
Any suggestions for the above so the snake will reach far enough, yet not get stuck in plumbing at the joined area?
My friend tried spot welding the snake wire, but that only ruined
The coil end of one of my snakes!

AIrknight... not to be a smarta** here... but you should go out and RENT an electric cable machine with a snake of appropriate length to do the job right.

Any attempt by you to attach the snakes may work... but may also break off somewhere down the drain and cause all kinds of issues for you... especially if the pipe goes underground.

RENT THE MACHINE. Bet that cable that got ruined costs about the same as a 4 hour rental... ;)

    Good luck...

Not snake of every size cannot be exended. 1/4" and 3/8" snakes come in fixed length. 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" snakes, like General or Rigid brands, are extandable through the tip connection. You remove the tip ( cutting knife ) and mount another cable to it. Then you install tip on the extended end.

How long snake do you need ? Our local Plumbing Code mandates clean-out every 75 feet - the length of snake cable. This way, cable will reach from clean-out to clean-out.
