Check the inside breaker for both the inside and outside unit.
Check the disconnect outside for a tripped beaker or blown fuses.
The switch on the outside(contacter I suppose) is controlled by low voltage (24V) which is sent from the tstat, which gets its power from the transformer in your furnace.you still need 230V of power to run the condenser(outside a/c unit),which is fed power from you main breaker box with a disconnect in between which both should be checked to insure that they are turned on.
