Marrying an ex felon, what will change.
I may marry my long time BF who is an ex felon and is a registered drug offender. He now is clean and has worked for years in the alcohol and drug recovery field. What will happen if I take on his last name and credit.. uh... what can be expunged... etc...

Hi pnk'... well done to your boyfriend and yourself for standing by him through all of this, it must have been very hard... congrats to you both.

Obviously having been in prison that will stay on record for some time, his credit status etc etc... will also be affected.

You are not the one that has been in prison so I cannot imagine that it will affect you.
The fact that you may marry will give you the same surname, but I'm sure lots of people have the same name as you boyfriend, never the less any bank account opened in you name is simple your account and not that of your husbands, therefore it should make no difference as to whom you are married too.

As long as there is no reason, as to why the bank or similar, should turn you down in your own right, then there will be no problem.

If you do decide to marry then all monies payable to you and your husband, should be payable to you only, should a payment be made out in your husbands name when money is outstanding to the bank then it will automatically be swallowed up.

When you marry any money owing should remain in his name, do not offer to take on the debt, it can be frozen or other arrangements can be made for recovery of such debt.
If you take on the debt ,then you also will be responsible which will cause you all kinds of trouble.

    Goodluck to you both
