    Confidentiality violation of rights
    I called the numan resource department to ask about how to get assistance with a transfer to a different state. A couple of days later, my immedite supervisor casualy mentioned he heard I might be moving to Atlanta. It was not his business and I was just seeking information when I contacted HR. Is this a violation of a right?

    No, it may be a violation of ethics, but that's all. Unless you specifically told the HR rep to keep the request confidential, there is no guarantee of it.

    It depends on what their rules are in the business you can ask for an employees rights booklet or whatever they have that explain your rights as an employee for them. Most likely there isn't anything in their policy stating anything that it is,

    You cannot expect to have a private conversation in an office 100% of the time. You should have made the call outside the office at lunchtime and this would have precluded you of being overheard by anyone. Basically, it's your own fault you were overheard as you should have been more discreet with your phone calls.

    And HR walks a thin line - is there for both you AND the company and if your plans to transfer (or even your thinking about a transfer) will adversely affect the location where you are now, HR is going to report that to the appropriate parties.

    They don't want to, for example, promote you and then have you leave or train you in some other direction and then have you leave.
