    Homecooked meals for dogs?
    Hello again.

So... my 2-year old chi stopped eating her food. Same food she's been eating for a year or so, not a new bag, same old bag... everything was the same. She just stopped eating.

So I figured, if she gets hungry, she'll eat it.

... well, after 3 - 4 days, I started to get worried, so I went out and bought 3 different brands of new dog food.

Brought them all back, tested them out, she won't touch them.

Today, (after one week of not eating), I cooked her some rice, chicken breast chunks, and steamed veggies (peas, corn, carrots)... and gave her a try, and she gobbled it up like there was no tomorrow.

... so I guess it's home-cooked meals from now on.

Question is, anyone have different suggestions of things I can cook for her? I also got some vitamin e gelcaps that I can break open and add to the food.

    Anything else?

You should bring your dog to the vet, there might be a problem and that's why your dog stopped eating dog food. Dogs really shouldn't be eating people food.

Possibly. I called my vet, and the vet practically told me that as long as she was eating, that there really isn't a problem with her. It's not that she's not eating... she's just not eating HER food.

Sneezy I cook for my dog right now I am cooking pork. But I mix it with the dry.. I'll give you the aspc guideline on feeding dogs human food. I have been feeding this way since about 2004. Make sure you look at the no no list located at the bottom of the page. Some foods can kill them.

Thanks bushg... but I heard from many groomers that garlic's good for them. Weird. I'm basically feeding her:

    Chicken breast chunks (no bone)
    Rice
Peas, corn, green beans, carrots... all cooked.

I've heard the same... I've never given it to mine. I think it may be bad if given in large amounts, I read someone where it has an effect on their blood... not sure though.

Hmm. Noted. I'll just try to avoid it just in case.

Some have suggested that I just don't feed her home cooked meals... to see if she'll revert back to her dog food. Granted, I've spent about $30 on dog food... that's just sitting there.

Has this happened to anyone before? A dog that just... got tired of her food after a year of eating it?
