    Hello:

You know that Rick Steves guy, the travel dude?? Well, he's a toker like most of us are. He along with the ACLU produced a video about pot. It's pretty good. Want to watch??

PS> Well, upon a second look, you have to be a Comcast subscriber. I tried to delete the question, but I couldn't...

    So, how was your day??

You sound exactly like our lawmakers. They don't want to know the truth either.

    Hello Sneezy:

The link which I provided is their website. It's got lots of interesting stuff. There's also video there about the video.

You know, the usual legalization stuff. The penalty is worse than the crime... The cops want to spend their time catching real criminals... The jails are full of non violent drug offenders... Stuff like that.

PS> (edited) It'll be on YouTube pretty soon. I thought this might be that. When it happens, I'll link to it. But, I don't know how to get an on demand video onto YouTube,

I was able to view the short video clip - it was about 30 seconds long. There's a 30 minute one too that I saw; don't have time to watch it now, but it loaded for me (and I'm not with Comcast; Verizon FTW! :))

Anyway... I think the best we can expect in this country is the decriminialization of marijahoochie; I don't think the Repubs will relent and go for full legalization.

It's odd, really, that the lawmakers (both sides) won't consider legalizing it, considering they could tax the living hell out of, regulate it like crazy and make a fortune. Perhaps pay for this big expensive war thing we've got going on... Not to mention all the money we'd save on jails and prisons and courts and cops. I guess the words of Helen Lovejoy ring quite loud in our politician's ears...

(Bonus points for whomever gets that without using Google!)

Ex, you'll probably fall over when I tell you that I agree with you. Legalize all drugs. What will happen next will be like when prohibition was repealed. No more drug wars. Then all the dope heads will kill themselves off, the kids will see how bad it is, and that will end any serious drug culture.

I think they'll be a surge first, then die down...

Look at the European countries that have no legal drinking age... kids aren't going crazy... in fact, most kids don't even drink.

Look at Amsterdam and their legalized pot... most of the time, the locals don't even smoke. The kids don't really smoke. It's mostly the tourists.

Wait... what? No more drug wars, I follow you there. But all the dope heads dying? Did I miss the part of history where all the drunks died when prohibition was repealed? Did I also miss the part of history when all the kids in the world saw how much drinking can ruin your life, so they've decided not to do it?

Or did I misunderstand what you're trying to say?

    Hello again, jillian:

Yup, you found it. I couldn't the first time. It's under "Online Video & Interviews" - the 30 minute one.

Maybe if I stopped smoking that stuff...

Jill, eventually all THOSE drunks died off. Drugs tend to kill more rapidly than alcohol, barring accidents caused by alcohol. I doubt alcohol consumption per capita is as high as during prohibition. Maybe someone has figures on that. There is something about people that makes them want the excitement of something illegal, alcohol, drugs or whatever. I do expect drug usage would reduce if it were not illegal. Anyway, I was mainly trying to shock Ex.

Hey ex, and anyone else interested...

Here is a GREAT example of how well our war on drugs is going.

Police mistakenly raid Maryland mayor's house, kill his dogs 'for sport' : Nation : The Rocky Mountain News

Yes, a perfect example of our tax dollars being used to make us all safe.

Well of course those drunks died off, but they are replaced by new ones. It's all over the media that alcoholism is on the rise; if you trust their studies. But yes, people do like when something is illegal because of the extra "high" you get from doing it; that's a contributing factor to why underage drinking is a problem. My point is I don't think you'd get kids seeing what a bad thing drugs are and not doing them; it doesn't happen with alcohol, I see no reason it would happen with drugs either.

Well I just finished watching the 30 minute video, and it was interesting. I learned some things I didn't know.

Other than it being very scripted (which was sort of funny), I think it was good. Certainly worth the time to watch. It seems to focus more on the decriminalization of pot than the full legalization; but maybe that's the first step.

    Thanks for the video, excon!

    Alty
I was born in Germany, practically raised on beer, not an alcoholic.;)

I went to Germany for 2 months when I was 16, the first time I could go to a bar and order a drink legally. I have to say that I spent most of those 2 months completely wasted, I'm sure it was a great trip though, too bad I can't remember most of it. ;)

Point is, when I came back home to Canada, turned 18 (which is the legal drinking age in Alberta) I wasn't that interested. Yes, I went to the bars, but not to drink. I got it out of my system, so maybe there's some truth to that.

Been to Amsterdam too, and as Sneezy said, the locals really don't do allot of drugs, the tourists however, well, it's one big drug fest, not that I'd know firsthand, nope, not me. ;)

Legalize pot already, cigarettes are legal and much worse for your health.

It is all about personal freedom. In the Netherlands they go very far in personal freedom in every way.
