Judgement vs. default judgment
I received a summons for an old credit card debit (I live in MI). I do owe the money, I'm not denying that. But I was told that if I answer the summons with acknowledgment that I owe the money that I will receive a judgment for it, which is fine, but my question is... is there a difference when it comes to a judgment after you have admitted the debt verses a default judgment if I don't answer? I was told by someone that it looks exactly the same on my credit report. Is it really worth the time to go to court just to receive a judgment if it has the same outcome as not answering?
Also, I wrote a letter to the atty. Offering a negation/settlement or payments (after I received the summons) is it too late to ask for them to prove the debt? Would that letter just be admittance to debt so they wouldn't have to prove it?
