How to Format C the Hard drive Seek and distroy a Trojan
I received a Trojan via Email, it gradually ate up my hard drive I now only have 55 seconds to run the program. Ive tried to reboot with a reboot disk, to reboot with a XP Pro CD, tried f8 to operate in Safe Mode, tried to do System Restore but the Trojan will not accept commands for the former actions. Any suggestions how to Format C or perhaps a program that could seek out and destroy the Trojan.

Do you by any chance have a recovery partition?

Try hitting the F-11 button as it starts up, if you have an HP or Compaq, this will allow you to reset the computer back to out of box state, called System Recovery.

Without that, I have no clue as to what will work.

If you can't get online, I don't even know how you could try a different anti-virus application.

To format just boot of the xp pro cd and when you select the partition it gives you an option to formst, goes withou saying: backup everything you need (if all your stuffs infected by the virus that's harder cause that will just up your newly formated system when you put it back on, shouldn't be a problem though as a trojan doesn't do that)

Thanks I tried to use the XP Pro CD but the Trojan has effectively blocked that process.

Does your computer have a floppy disk drive?

Ok, download file below (it is safe, it is my file and upload) To download file, click link below and click Free User on the left and download should start in 25 secs.

This download is a bootable floppy disk with CD Rom support
    RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

-Open file with Winrar or Winzip, whatever you use to open .rar files and there is a temp directory

-Copy all the files in the temp folder onto a blank formatted floppy disk so that the only things you have on the floppy disk are the files that were in the temp folder

-Now you need to put the floppy disk in and your XP CD and restart your computer

You should come to a DOS prompt

    -Type d:
    Hit enter

-Type setup and hit enter, this should enter you into the XP set up program

-Follow instructions in link above of How to Format Drive and Install Windows from Scratch

If all works out well, you should do the system recovery and be able to start from scratch
