The foundation under my Florida room is continuing to shift. There are solid cracks in all corners of the adjoining walls, there is fairly solid crack in the wall near the door where the porch attaches to the house (can be seen inside and out).

I have installed water drainage system to get water away from the house and have seen a major improvement in the dampness in the basement and porch. However, as the ground drys out in summer, I can see where the porch needs shoring up until I can afford major repairs. Solutions presented to me were extravagant water drainage systems totalling $14,000, or piering totalling $16,000. I would like suggestions on inexpensive solutions that can be done.

I really hope for you there are other temporal solutions.
But living in a water rich area myself I know that the only proper solution is piering foundations !

You may be able to temporarily install some jacks to hold it in place until you can afford to do the repairs.

Your Florida room may be a simple slab and can be mud jacked. Look in the yellow pages for a cement contractor that does mud jacking, it could be all you will need depending on your soil.

Sounds like a good option. I heard an ad from a cement jacking company who did that work primarily for sidewalks. They were moving into basement solutions. I was leery of their ability to jack a room, etc. and did not call. Now I think I will check them out.

Lisa, it is worth your effort to call. Ask them for the name and phone numbers of the people they did work for during the past month. Good references come when you select the group, not the contractor who might give you his brother-in-laws number.
