    Refrigerant Lines and Compressor Failure
I just discovered that my refrigerant lines are smaller than what the system calls for. My heat pump is not working. The compressor is burnt out. Will small refrigerant lines cause this to happen? My liquid line is 1/4 and my suction line is 5/8.

    Thanks

It all depends upon what the manufacturer recommends. There have been central air companies that in the past used 1/4 and 5/16th tubing to complete the liquid line circuit.

Today almost all units from 1 ton up use at least 3/8 copper liquid line.

Any possibility this was an R22 system upgraded to R410A?
