Runs on 1 Cylinder when hot
Hi My john Deere Z trak 717 A runs on only one cylinder when it warms up.I replaced one of the coils (the one on the bad side) and the problem stills continues. It has a Kawasaki FH601 2Cyl.19HP engine.I bought this used about a year ago and had this problem once before, but it acted up for about an hour and it cleared up and stayed cleared for approx 10 months before this most current problem. I just went out and tested the compression and both cyl.show about 100 lbs. After the test the engine ran great I drove it all over my 1+ acres for about 10 min. with no problems but when I went to put it in my garage it acted up again. I'm wondering if when I ran my comp. test the engine was cool enough ( I had just cut the lawn about a half hour before on 1 cyl) and I got a false reading.
So my ? Is what would make my JD Ztrak run on one cylinder when hot valves, electrical, card, Thanks in advance any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Again

    Hey fuzzie

If you're sure that the fuel and ignition systems are as good as they can be, I wonder if a valve on one cylinder is sticking open?

Maybe try the compression test when it's warm. Or simply just remove the spark plugs, stick your finger over each plug hole, and check that there's a similar amount of pressure when you crank the engine. If pressure isn't similar, then check the tappet clearances for all valves.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki Z400 motorbike which had a sticky exhaust valve, which my friend cured by running it on 2-stroke petrol (gasoline) for a few hours.

Anyway, let me know how it goes.

    Best regards,
    RM
