Is it excess of salt dangerous
    Hi all,
My wife is very addicted to salt. She uses it regularly not only in daily dishes but she prefers time after time to hold in her moth a granule of salt.
This worries me because I fear that by doing this she might damage kidneys and have other side effect to blood etc.
When I ask her to stop doing this here replay is: I like it, I am addicted to it like you are addicted to tobacco.
So my question is: is she doing harm to her health by using excess of salt?
    Thanks,

    Warm regards,
    lisi

    Hello lisi

Excess salt consumption causes many problems.
But your wife is correct : she is addicted to salt, like you are addicted to tobacco.
And I fear your addiction is even more dangerous...

The big side effects of excessive salt intake are heart burn and high blood pressure. It probably won't do any significant damage to her kidneys though.

Also besides high blood pressure most salt contains iodine which too much or too little can cause problems as well.

Too high of a sodium intake can certainly be harmful.. ever heard that saying, too much of a good thing?

You guys should probably talk to her doctor about her love for salt and whether it has or could affect her health.

Habits and addictions are hard to quit, g'luck to both of you.
