House being Foreclosed and renting
This is kind a complicated situation. We moved into this house about 3 years ago under an owner we wasn't I guess the "legal" owner they were helping the original owner out by taking over all of their rental houses because they we in a huge financial bind. This past October the original owner decided they wanted the house back. The I guess you could call them the "current" owners, the people we rented from originally whom were suppose to be our good friends decided they were not going to fight for the house. The original owner wanted to hike up our rent $300 more then what we were paying. Beside rent we have four children and two car payments. The house is in badly need of some repairs. We rent, it's not our house to do the repairs. The bathroom you can't take showers. The water leaks into the basement. Therefore we have mold growing in the bathrom. We have told the landlord many times. He has lied to us about coming with a plumber and redoing the bathroom completely. In January we told him we have a bug problem. We did not have this problem before. I believe they came into the house from the neighbors next door. To this day he has not done anything about it. Today I called the exterminator and I am taking care of it myself and taking it out of the rent. In July we get a letter from the Sheriff's Department stating that the mortgage company that they deal with is filing foreclosure on the house. Last weekend the landlord comes to the house and wants my husband and I to help him out and give him more money other then rent to get him out of the foreclosure process. The house is not worth us buying as I have listed some of the downfalls above. I guess I question is how long does this process take and should I continue to pay rent. It's not like he is paying the mortgage company, so I feel like the money is benefitting him and we could use it on other things. Can any one help? We have no lease with the current landlord nor did we have one with the "current landlord" we just had a mutal agreement because we were going to purchase the home and fix it up from the first landlord "our friends".
