    Income Tax Treaty Italy-US eligibility
    Hi all,

Thanks very much for providing all the important facts about Income Tax Treaty Italy-USA
Anyway, I am not sure if I am eligible.
Basically, I am Italian citizen but my place of residence is UK right now. Is still OK? Reading the treaty is not clear for me. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-trty/italy.pdf

I was offered a job for $50000 in Univ California San Diego under J-1 visa. I thought that was good money, but that will depend on how much taxes I should pay. I found that non resident alien pay as single person. Is that right?

    Thanks very much everyone.
    Diego

Every one on J1 is exempt from Social Security and Medicare Taxes for two years. You will pay federal income tax and state income tax. You must file non-resident tax return.

You deduction depends upon tax treaty and purpose of your visa. If you are here as a teacher, professor or researcher, then your income is not taxable for two years. Read Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Tax Treaties for Professors, Teachers and Researchers
