    As I understand tenure, its supposed to give a teacher academic freedom by making it harder to terminate their employment. Even if a teacher is good at their job (and often a very good teacher is one that needs stretches the bounds of academic freedom), they can run afoul of school boards and hidebound parents..

    I agree I know just recently I have heard several different stories where teachers absolutely needed fired but could not be because of tenure.
