Salaried and deducted for missing half days
I am a salaried employee in Iowa. I was deducted one full days pay to compensate for missing two half days of work in a week. Is this legal or should I be paid in full for working half of each of these days? Can my employer deduct pay from my check per hour missed, even though I'm not an hourly employee?

Generally I would say this is illegal. They can dock you for missing a full day but not a part of a day.

Thanks for your quick response. This is very helpful. Do you know of any place I can find this documented?

This is a Federal regulation under the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act). You can find the regulation on the U.S.Department of Labor website:

Here is a link to a power point presentation put on by the Department of Labor which will answer those questions about the docking of exempt employee's salary.
