    Epoxy grout too shallow
I have just had a new ceramic tile floor (600 Sq ft) installed with epoxy grout (Mapei Kerapoxy). The grout is too shallow and exposes too much of the top edge of the tile. Is there any way to add more of the same grout without removing the existing grout? If not, what is the best method of removing this very hard grout?

    Try regrouting. Who installed tile?

I had a professional mason do the installation. He has a good reputation, and has done other work for me. I haven't discussed this situation with him yet as we just began to use the floor. I just wanted to see if there are options other than asking him to remove the grout (at least to the bottom of the groove). I don't think he has a lot of experience with epoxy.

Probably can just add additional grout by regrouting. Installer may have just washed too soon or may have thought that was the way you wanted it. Probably just didn't wait for grout to dry enough before washing.

I agree with Harold, as usual. Read the Mapei can label regarding adding additional grout, I think you must rough up the other grout but not remove it totally. A mason is not a tile person but skills are similar. Sounds like he gave you a bricklayers joint rather than a tilers grout line. You can rough up the original grout with a carbide grout saw, use the same grout for the next application and do not clean for at least 20 minutes. Skreet with a hard rubber trowel and then wipe softly with a wet sponge until clean.

Thanks for the help. We re-grouted with the same grout and it appears to be fine. However, some of the epoxy grout got smeared onto the bottom of our new stainless steel stove and new mahogany stained maple base cabinets (in the kick space). I just noticed this several days after the application when doing some routine cleaning, and this stuff is well cured and dried on to the surfaces (it's just a thin film). Any suggestions about how to clean it off without damaging the wood or stainless? I have left a message with the installer for his thoughts as well.

    Thanks.

There are grout removeing products. Weather or not they work is another question. Test before using on wood surfaces.

Try scaping with a plastic scraper or plastic putty knife. You could try laquer thinner on the steel but not the cabinet. Grout in between tiles is very strong, a thin layer will usually chip off easily. Try your thumb nail first.
