    Giving Up Parental Rights
I am a married man of many years and have two children. My wife and I were separated and I was involved with another woman. She knew under no uncertain circumstances did I want to father another child with her. She became pregnant, I tried to get her to get an abortion and wouldn't. She moved to another state and said she would. Nine months later a child was born. My wife and I reconciled. I want no part in this child's life, she was aware of this. I am trying to find information on giving up my parental rights. Does this law differ in different states as well?

Welcome to AMHD. I've looked for information about giving up parental rights and never found anything except in the situation when an adoption is being pursued.

While she knew that you didn't want another kid by her you also knew the risks of sex. So now you have the rights and resposibilities associated with having sex. Did you sign the affidavid of paternaty at birth? If not she will take you to court for support and you can counterfile for visitation after a court ordered DNA test comes back possitive. You will not have your rights terminated unless she is married as well and her spouce wants to adopt. So if your wife doesn't know yet you might want to tell her before you get the court papers.
