I have a family heirloom to use as my engagement ring for my girlfriend. Since I did not have to purchase it, should I buy something to go along with it? A diamond necklace, diamond earlings?

The ring is from my girlfriends family. It was her grandmother's. And while I agree that the ring should be and would be enough, I would like to get her something from me to complement the ring. So I thought a nice pair of diamond earings would be a great idea. The ring, is very simple with small designs on the band around each side of the stone.

If you want you can get her a diamond eternity band to go along with it or maybe her birthstone if it matches. A lot of women like the look of blue or pink with diamonds like aquamarine, sapphire, blue topaz. You could match it with her favorite color or personality.

The circular loop of diamonds signifies eternal and unending love.

I don't know... I would think that if it's a family heirloom, it'd be enough, no?

Describe the ring. Band... rock... etc.

It is very special to give/receive an heirloom ring. Use the money you would have spent on a ring for something for your future together.

Heirlooms are very precious in sentimental value. As such, I would think that just giving the ring would be sufficient.

Ah, gotcha. I assumed that the ring was from your side of the family. Then yes, I believe something to compliment the ring would be nice.

Have you considered a necklace, diamond ring, or perhaps a watch?

How about a beautiful antique ring box to present the ring in.

This is totally off topic, but Sneezy, you do realize that if you gave that ring as an engagement ring you are entitled to get it back. It's a contract, an agreement between the two of you to marry, if the contract is broken, the ring once again is yours. At least that's what I've been told, could be wrong.

That's the thing. There was a loophole. It wasn't an engagement ring (I never proposed... or... at least... I don't think I did). More like a "happy anniversary... happy v-day... and I look forward to living with you soon).

Hee, hee. When the time comes and you meet the perfect girl, you'll find the perfect ring. Even if you don't, she'll love you, after all, in the grand scheme of things, it's just a ring. ;)
