t5 ballast - can I 'overload' a lower watt tube?
    Can I wire in 24" 26watt t5HO tubes on a ballast that is designed for 48" 54watt t5HO tubes?
Is the only likely consequence shorter tube life? Could it be catastrophic?

The lamp will burn out prematurely, and possible cause damage to the ballast.

There may or may not be any "catastrophic" event. However, you will assume all risk.

Overdriving lamps may cause the lamp to burst.

What you propose to do will violate and UL or third party listing. Again you will assume all risk from any damage or injuries caused by this action.

Why not just use the proper lamp/ballast match?
