    I thought we (U.S.) are a democracy?
Not according to Nancy Pelosi: "Pelosi drew derision from her critics for telling the Web site Politico this week that she was blocking a vote on offshore drilling because "I'm trying to save the planet." But she elaborated on that theme Thursday, saying she sees energy independence and fighting global warming as "my flagship issue." She said she will use her power to resist a policy that could increase the country's oil dependency." Pelosi blocks offshore drilling vote GOP wants

Wait a minute: American companies drilling American oil will increase dependency? What planet are these folks from?
"A new CNN/Opinion Research poll released this week found that 69 percent of Americans favor more offshore drilling, while 30 percent oppose it. But the poll found the public was split over whether more coastal drilling would lower gas prices, with 51 percent saying yes and 49 percent saying no."

Nope, never were. We have always been a federal republic. That is different from a democracy.

Technically, the U.S is a representative republic, but either way I did not realize we elected these people to "save the planet." I'm unsure of exactly where they find this in their constitutional powers, but since when has that ever gotten in the way?

What ever we are it is not for the people or by the people

And I do agree with speechlesstx our government is spending too much time worrying about 'fixing' things they should not even be involved in and letting the politics fall apart in the areas they should be focused on.

The left is in step with the environmental nuts in this country, and around the world.

They found out that they couldn't successfully push their communist, socialist policies on the American public openly and so they developed a new plan.

They HATE Capitalism and the Free Market system and want to put an end to it.

What better way to attack Corporations, and Capitalism than to say it is all about "saving our planet'!!

Who the heck can argue with that position, even if the basis for the position are all false, anyone who openly opposes this insanity is accused of wanting to pollute the world.

They can claim that they only want to save the world, when in reality, they just want to destroy our Free Market System, and find ways to punish "corporate greed".

It is all a sham, and the majority of the American public is beginning to see through this farce, and have begun to support the need to drill for our own oil.

I believe that the libs are shooting themselves in the butt on this issue, and it is not going to turn out to have been a good decision on their part.

Exactly but they will still have their excuses when all else fails...
When all else fails they simply say they did not have enough time to do enough of their plan for it to have been effective enough, but if they had had enough time to do enough of their plan it would have worked.

Another view: "When President Bush recently lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling, the ball was placed completely in Congress' court to take the next move. But instead of Congress representing the majority of Americans' wishes to drill for domestic oil, they once again are favoring a minority...." Nancy Pelosi vs. Rush Limbaugh - HUMAN EVENTS

Exactly why I say we are no longer for the people, by the people. In the last year or two they have been passing laws that directly effect us right under our noses and nobody cares

Pelosi adjourned the House for a nice 5 week recess. Republicans stuck around to try and force a debate on offshore drilling and in ANWR while Pelosi ordered the lights out and C-Span cameras off. Sure, take 5 weeks off on us... be sure to stop by and see me while I'm filling up my truck. :D

Nancy Pelosi is trying to control the United States completely. I can't imagine how she ever got into such a position - she really doesn't seem smart enough to be there. Plus, she seems to have no regard for the citizens she supposedly represents.

Personally, I doubt that our drilling for oil here would lower the prices of gasoline anyway. The oil companies still have to do the work and they will get their money one way or the other.

Remember this George?. and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

That is a nice note, pw; Pelosi has to face the voters every two years, but then there is the matter of California, New York, Massachusetts, W. Va.; makes you wonder about some folks.
