My son is a pro, and a guitar teacher and he said:

You need a Fender Stratocaster played through a Fender Twin Reverb amp with the reverb turned maybe 1/2 up or so on a "clean" setting. It sounds like you need to set the guitar to the middle pick-up or a combination of the middle and bridge pick-up. Adjust the tone controls on the amp - start with them all 1/2 way up and make adjustments until you get the sound you're looking for. He's also making occasional use of the so-called "tremelo" bar on the Strat.

Stevie Ray Vaughan used heavy gauge strings on all of his guitars so that's a part of the sound also. And as far as I know, he also used heavy gauge picks.

Hope this helps. Any further questions, and I'll get him and ask him some more.

    Good luck, Barbann
