    Wire size
    Jan.9,2008,I asked the wire size that would be required for two houses both w/200 amp load centers. One house has a 5 ton ac the other has 2 three ton ac.The distance from the transformer pole to secondary pole is 150 feet.From the secondary pole to each load center is 35 feet. Your answer was not practical to do. This configuration with 1/0 alum. Triplex is how my house and neighbors are supplied by So.Ca.Edison.When my 5 ton ac comes on my lights dim.Small wonder huh ! I filed a formal complaint with the Ca.Public util. comm.On Jan. 14,08 I was in a court hearing w/Edison.One of the pieces of evidence I presented was your answer. I received the court ruling today.Edison says a larger wire is not necessary and the court agreed.HELP

    I usually use 2/0 Copper for 200 Amps Service. Stan, I don't doubt you.
    I never use aluminum, for reference, can you tell me size for 100 and 150 Amp also, Thanks

    Strat, thing is this is NOT the service riser or lateral this guy is complaining about. It is the drop from the street. The POCO owned and maintained drop.
    ANY suggestions made here or anywhere else are moot. The POCO follows it's OWN rules and does not have to answer to very many people.

    Oh, and as far as the customer owned and installed riser goes;

    100A - #2al or #4cu
    150A - 2/0al or #1cu
    200A - 4/0al or 2/0cu

    Ahhhh, They always look small. Free air is great for capacity/ampacity. Thanks.
    Hope he doesn't see the size wire that is supplying the whole street, might scare him.
