    Home owner liability
We had a friend fall off a low roof yesterday. He refused to have us call 911 stating he was okay. He then proceeded to walk around, strech his muscles, smoke and have 2 beers. This morning we were told that he was taken to the hospital late last night and was found to have a punctured lung, 7 cracked vertabrae, a and a cracked pelvis. They were to do surgery this afternoon. This person is 100% disabled and we were paying him cash for his help. I am sure our policy will cover him but will we get in trouble for paying him "under the table"?

Actully don't be 100 percent sure that your home owners will cover this, If he was employed by you, it is possible they exclude this under your policy and you should have had a licensed and insured contractor doing the work.

You need to contact your agent ASP.

If he was 100% disabled WHAT is he doing WORKING up on a roof? He is committing fraud against SSD and collecting a little "beer" money for himself with your help. You are as bad as him paying him under the table. I don't think your homeowner's insurance will pay for a "worker" on the roof, but more likely pay for a "friend helping out for free" and fell scenerio. Either way, your friend should think twice about trying to earn beer money while 100% disabled. Shame on him.

Sounds like he might have had a few too many beers before he got on the roof as anyone having a punctured lung and cracked vertebrae and pelvis would have been writhing in pain on the ground immediately after the fall.
