5 week old puppy with semi hard tummy
We had a litter of shih-tzu pups in June. They are now 5 weeks old. They have been eating gruel for a week and a half and doing very well with it. I had a pup that had a hard tummy and when he tried to poop nothing came out. So I gave him some yogurt. He's fine now. Now I have another one that has the hard tummy but I haven't seen him try to or poop. When you pick him up his whole back sticks up like he is trying to fly. All the other pups don't do this. When you pick them up they are normal squooshy puppies. I gave him yogurt last night but he is still doing this. Any ideas or suggestions? Btw, their poop isn't always solid. Sometimes is really mushy and runny. Other times its normal

He may just be having a hard time moving things along. Try giving him milk. Canned Pumpkin, psyllium seed husks found in metamucil and lots of water can get things to loosen up. The back is sticking up because of the hard tummy and probably some discomfort huh? We have a shih tzu and I love the breed. You are right about them being squooshy puppies. Love Love Love our 3 yr old. House training is a chore though right? He still has accidents. Any ideas on that?

Also just read that you should be massaging the rectum and tummy to encourage digestion

I took their stool in to the doc this morning.Still waiting on fecal results. Shih-tzus are little stinkers when it comes to potty training. I had that problem with my male. He would be fine during the day for the most part, until I left or in the middle of the night. I solved that problem very quickly. I started kenneling him when I wasn't home and during the night. He no longer pees in the house. Its great!! I would highly highly suggest this!

Hi this is just a suggestion but have you checked for worms? The same thing was happened to my puppy she hardly went to the toilet and her belly was really hard.I then found out she had worms as she wasn't wormed properly by the breeder, since then she's been dewormed and has regular bowel movements.hope this can be of some help to you
