The mother of my little girl wants to put me on child support after 17 months of me trying to be in lauren's life. I have dropped at least ten thousand dollars in the first six months of lauren being here cloths diapers bottles formula bills etc. and its just coming up as of yesterday that she wants me to give up my rights. My question is ONE what do I do. TWO I want to be in my daughters life minus being a part time father like mine was to me. I want to do everything I need to do to be sure she knows who her father is and make sure she has everything I didn't have when I was her age which is a father. THREE the relationship I'm in right now, my girlfriend says I should fight for custody and that we will take care of her, my girlfriend accecpts her as her own and understood and continues to understand that. But she wants ''us'' myself my girlfriend kariann and LC to be a family without the disfunction of jennifer (my daughters mother) and her new ''fiance'' and her family... I refuse to give up my rights. BUT I do not want to be a child support and a be made a part time father. I want her to live with me and my girlfriend and have the love and support she needs.

Take a breath and understand you will be paying child support, does not matter what you want, if you are not living and part of the other parents life, and they have custody of the chlld, you will be paying child support, in fact all of the 1000's you have paid so far is not support, so you should have been making at least one check a month for that.

And unless the new partner was going to adopt, giving up your rights does not stop the child support anyway.

So you go to court, you get as much visits, or try to get joint custody, where you each have the child 1/2 of the time.

And you want everyone to be a big happy family?? OK, sorry I don't ever know of that happening not for long anyway.

You have every right to go to Court and request custody. Unless you can PROVE that the child is being neglected or abandoned you will not get sole custody.

If your girlfriend wants to be the child's mother then you should get married, have a stable relationship for a year and then ask the mother to surrender the child for adoption. That's the only way that can happen.

If the mother wants you to give up your rights and she's in a stable marriage, then her husband would be able to adopt the child - not her boyfriend.

You have no choice in the child support; you do have a choice when it comes to custody but I do not see the child living with you and your girlfriend.

Your $10,000 breaks down to about $560+ a month (over 17 months). The Court will look at your income and make an Order which could be higher or lower.
