Hi,

I ordered a glass vessel sink and a popup drain/ mounting ring separately. The popup drain fits the drain hole in the vessel, but it does not hold the vesel tight. The vessel can be rotated by a slight turn. How do I fix this? Or should I just throw away the pop-up drain and buy a new one?

Also are all popup drain thread length same ( 2") ?

You don't use pop-up drain on vessel sinks. Typical vessel sink doesn't have overflow hole therefore pop up should not be used. Sink drain opening is not deep enough to accept drain designed for pop-up. You need drain designed for vessel sinks. Place where you bought the sink should sell those. This drain has no overflow holes therefore it is not as "deep". With dedicated drain, threads go all the way to to flange. Even then, some manufacturers suggest that you install (sometimes supplied ) fat polished chrome washer-like-ring that is to be inserted between bottom of the sink and drain nut.

Actually it is finger touch pop-up drain non overflow type. The thread length is only 2" and I am barely able to tighten it from below. So the vessel is not tight. Not sure if I can get an drain with more then 2" thread length.

Would this be your drain? (see image)

Is the touch down drain from Home Depot ? The Pegasus brand ?

Two things:
1. You really need drain that fits vessel sinks. Some manufacturers make longer threads some don't. Try Kohler or Grohe vessel sink drain.

2. Make sure you are getting vessel sink drain. Not drain designed for sinks w/o pop-up. There is a difference in length of threads.

Also: Every vessel sink will turn after it was installed. That's because the way they are connected. We usually apply small amount of clear silicone caulk on the bottom part of the sink where it makes contact with vanity top. Don't apply any pressure to it for couple of days. Caulk will prevent the vessel sink from moving easily - even though seal still can be broken with some effort.

Thanks for the replies. As Milo mentioned, I used putty for sealing and also an thick gasket below. Looks like the vessel is holding up for now, but can be rotated with a little bit of effort.
