I am so tired. I've had the thermostat changed twice and the air conditoner keeps running. It passes the set temp and keeps on running.:confused: the unit itself is less than 5 years old I am at my wits end. The air is very cold so cold that I have to turn the unit off manual by turning the swich off from the base. Any suggestions as what I should do?

Are you shutting the unit off at the thermostat? Is this a programmable thermostat or a mercury type? And why did you change the thermostat in the forst place? The more information you give, the better chance we can help you.
I have a suggetion on what to do with your air-conditioning. However you should have some who knows about electrical parts before touching anything. I would suggest that some one check the condenser contactor on the outside unit, and see if the contactor is sticking closed,or welded shut by loose electrical connections causing arcing. If the contactor is OK, I would suggest that someone check tha low voltage wiring from thermostat to furnace and condenser. DO NOT CHECK ANY ELETRICAL PARTS UNLESS YOU ARE CERTIFIED TO DO SO... The unit froze up and would not run at all. We had the thermostat changed because we thought it was the cause of the dilemma. At first it was programmable which worked fine then it just went kput now we have the old mercury type because my husband thinks it's better (not so to me) any way I dread to think of on the hot hot days what will happen when we need it most and it is not perfoming at it's peak. I wanted to get some suggestions before I call out the AC man.Quote:

Just call for ON SITE service. Actually there are no used serviceable parts for you to play with unless you have all the proper tools and know how to use them.
Mine is similar but when the temp is reach the outside unit turns off BUT the handler inside keeps blowing. It does not shut off, it will run all day and night and keep running. I have to turn it off at the circuit breaker. The "fan" switch on the thermostat is not on, it is set to auto. My filters look clean. I changed the hepafilter filter. How to make it stop??
Sounds like your fan relay is stuck. When you turn off the circuit breaker, then turn it back on... does the fan start if the temp is reached?

Yes, it just starts and keeps blowing even if the temp is reached and/or the outside unit is blowing.Quote:

I just turn everything off and the AC is now working perfectly. Thanks for the info. God bles you all.
My sister was having a problem like this and had to call air conditioning service in Florida. Turns out there was problems with the thermostat and they had to get a couple of new parts for it. It works now though, (just in time for winter haha) but it might just be easier to have someone come and look at it. http://www.bensonshvac.com/
