How do I safely change a combo fan/light switch in my bathroom?

The fan switch works, but the light switch doesn't.

Turn off power at circuit breaker panel.
Remove cover plate and switch.
Pull switch out from box.
Unhook wires from switch.
Connect wires to new switch.
Wires go under screws the same direction as the screw turns to tighten.

Before replacing switch, momentarily jump switch connection, could be wire, connection, bulb. I wouldn't replace if switch is good. If you have determined with meter, then replace.
