Loud noise when turning on water
I have a simple ranch house and my shower/tub and my sink downstairs both do this. When you turn on the cold water and start to turn it to give it a little more pressure coming out, it makes a huge noise like the whole pipe shook and all of the sudden a little trickle of water comes out. Then you have to keep turning it more to get more water pressure to come out of it.
Can anyone give me any insight?
    Thanks
    Tara

You have loose washer on your stem. Close water to the sink, remove stem, replace washer.

    Hi Tara,
Do you have a one handle valve or does it have two knobs? Let me know, Tom

I have a cold water knob and a hot water knob. I Hope that is what you are asking me.

This doesn't correlate with the other problem because that hasn't been a problem for too long. But since we moved in to our home, 7 years ago, our shower doesn't have a lot of pressure. The water comes out pretty good everywhere else, but it takes me forever to rinse shampoo out of my hair compared to when I shower somewhere else. (like on vacation) Could we just need a new shower head?

    Thanks
    Tara

Since this occurs at both the sink and the shower there is probably a stop valve on the cold water line to that bath. Trace pipe back to main line and look for valve. That is probably where the loose washer is that Milo referred too. Remove shower head and take out the "water saving" device. A little disc with a small hole in it.

May be unrelated. Unscrew your shower head, clean it. Check sink faucet stems / angle stops for loose washers. Also open and close angle stops under the sink.
