A friend and I are looking at starting a free magazine/website for the international community (especially international students/travellers who are learning English or whose English may not be that great) in our city (Brisbane, Australia).

We are kicking around some titles and symbols at the moment... and I'm wondering if anyone has any good suggestions.

One we like at the moment is a rainbow (I know this also a gay culture symbol, but I think it can symbolise "international" as well).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

PS not sure if this is the correct topic, but I couldn't find any others that were suitable.

I forgot to mention, the website/magazine will mostly directed towards 18-30 year olds, so want something a bit fresh and youthful as the symbol. A globe would be a bit boring for them I'd feel.

Why not come up with a new symbol? Although a globe, map of the world, solar system, etc. would be great, drew's right... it's been done.

If you want to attract the new generation, perhaps coming up with a whole new simple logo would work wonders.

I'm not much of an artist (... actually... none at all. Can't even draw a stick figure) but have you considered doing something REALLY simple with a ribbon... or just a few lines?

(you could always steal the AT&T logo... or some derivation of it)

You could play with this as an idea... the globe (other symbol perhaps ~ rainbow heart) on top of a water drop between the waves...

Wing tips of doves carrying globe (rainbow globe/heart)...

What about pictures of diversity? Google image search diversity some real cool ones come up

There are also some symbols on the following image search which might give you some ideas as to design yours about your website being international.

If you find one that you like, you might want to design yours in such a way that it differs enough from the original image so that you don't have to worry about any copyright infringement.

I know this sounds silly but I suddenly had this picture in my head of... a cute kangoru with English books coming out of his pouch, with a background of the union jack... the picture I have looks quite good OK... you can all laugh now lol...

Since the original poster is based in Australia, the kind of image that you are thinking about might be perfect! You could make it like the kangaroo is hopping around all over the world. That's where the globe might fit in. The "Union Jack" is specific to the United Kingdom an in my opinion not something that would fit on an international level since there are also a number of other countries where English is considered to be the primary language.

HI Clough... yes I think your right, I hadn't actually thought about the union jack as being specific to the uk, I was focused on the learning English, when of course there are a number of countries who have the English language.

I think that's a fantastic idea... I can picture it... the globe with kangaroos hopping from maybe one side to the other... with the books in their pockets, disappearing over the horizon.
The kangaroos could be several, as they get further across the globe they gradually get smaller.
You could have a sort of band going across that would indicate the road for learning which the kangaroo... s would follow, with the appropriate logo.
Visually I can see this quite clearly.

Yes, I do see the humor in what you are writing, Orphan! I also think that you are a very creative person who could go far in positions requiring creativity, because of your mind being so unbounded in that way!
