    Sore and swollen vagina
I'm 17, a few days ago it started itching and being sore down there.. ive tried not to itch and its kind of working. Its just manly sore and annying now... I had a look with a mirror [lol] and it looks swollen and more red then I think it should look. And I'm creaming. but it doesn't smell... :( I'm worried I don't no what it is. I'm a bit scared about going to the family planning clinic over here because I don't no what to say to them and ill feel awkward... I no it's the best thing to do because I don't no what is happening, I just wanted to see if I could maybe get a rough idea of what it may be.
I am sexually active, I've been on the pill for 9 months and we only use that, I've only ever had sex with my boyfriend and he, over the past year and a half and more hasn't been with anyone but me.
Please could some one shed some light on the matter :( its getting me down.. ive tried to describe it too the best.:o

Sounds like a yeast infection to me. You need to have it properly diagnosed by a doctor or clinic and get the correct medication to treat it.

Could be a yeast infection, could be an std, could be something else. There are so many could be's and no way to give you an accurate diagnosis over the internet. It's time to go to the doctor. If you are old enough and mature enough to have sex, then you are old enough and mature enough to handle the reprocutions. Go to the doctor!

Also, from now on, double up on birth control, the pill and a condom, even then you aren't protected 100% from pregnancy or an std.

    Good luck.

    Hi purplepuff,

Don't worry about seeing a doctor, they are used to these things, at a guess I would say thrush, which is very common.
If this is the case, you will usually be given cream or pessaries which you insert into the vagina using an applicator before going to bed, it will stop the itching.
Alternativley, there is a tablet that you can buy over the counter called... caneston.. for thrush, its available most places even a supermarket.

If you choose to try the tablet first and it does work, I would still advise that you see a doctor just to get checked out.

    Hope this Helps you

STD's are tricky, some don't show up for a long time, I wouldn't rule it out, especially if you are having unprotected sex. Go to your doctor, he/she can help you and do the proper tests to see what's going on. In the future, use protection, always!

    Good luck.

:(.. but how can i get an STD if neither of us have been sleeping around ? To me that doesn't make any sense, I really am confused about the whole thing, and the other day I had to stop sex because I was in pain and he got all concerned.. . but that was 2 days ago and it hasnt been hurting since and it doesnt look inflamed.. maybe this is a bad thing.
My doctor died O_o so don't have one atm.. and the family planning clinic over here opens at stupid times and I can't always get to it, planning on going next Wednesday mind.

[underlined things to make sure they are noticed]

I really do apriciate talking about this because I haven't got anyone to talk to without it getting around everyone I no :(

    Thank you :) x

You said that your boyfriend had sex with his ex, and only her, was he her first? If not, who did she have sex with, who did they have sex with, and so on and so on. Just because he's only been with one person doesn't mean he hasn't been exposed to an STD, that's why protection is so imortant. Even with protection you aren't completely safe, but that's the risk you take when you have sex. Does that clear it up any better?

I wouldn't wait until next Wednesday to get this checked, the longer you wait the worse it will be. It does sound like you have a yeast infection, but we can't diagnose you over the internet, it's best to get this checked by a doctor.

It's up to you, it's your body, but if it were me, I wouldn't take any chances, I'd haul a$$ to the doctor asap.

    Good luck.

yes, they were the first for each other and no she didn't sleep with anyone when they were involved. And yes thank you, its made it clearer :) I thought you could just randomly get them, but I get it now :) thanks x

I really do want to get this sorted because it is distressing me, but my mom is super strict and never lets me out and she knows all my friends are on holiday atm and will question me if I go out the house without an explanation because I can't say I want to go anywhere on my own, she won't let me. :( and I can't say I'm meeting my boyfriend because he is working all week apart from Sunday and she knows that! She is so annoying! :@ grrr
    k, sorry

thank you for all of your help!! Xx :D

    No problem. I hope you get it sorted out. In the meantime, if it is a yeast infection, here are some home remedies that you may want to try. I know that the yogurt one works, because I had a yeast infection when I was pregnant and couldn't use the medication, over the counter or prescribed, so I ate allot of yogurt and it helped. The other remedies I'm not sure about, especially the garlic paste, I'm not sure I'd recommend trying it. Here's the link;

What you are describing sounds like a yeast infection, especially the itching. This can happen even when no one "sleeps around". The antifungal medications are over the counter in most grocery stores. Use the kit and if you are still having problems, see your gyn doc to rule out STD. ob/gyn retired

thank you ever so much =] is a yeast infection the same as thrush by the way?
and I would like to say, yogurt :) has worked.. and I've enjoyed the eating of it lol
going to get this sorted out as soon as I can, but living with a controlling mother it is difficult to get out of the house :(

Yes, thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth. By the way, one of the home remedies for a yeast infection is to actually use yogurt in the vagina (no kidding). Anyway, taking warm baths and washing the vagina area well should also help. If the itching stops, then you are okay. If it continues or gets worse, you may need to ask mom to let you go to the doctor.
