Im wondering what can be done about these pesky little ticks in my yard. Ive pulled them off my kids and myself and my dog. My kids are not too happy to go outside and play anymore and It's a shame for such a lovely yard to go to waste with no one playing in it.

Ugh. Ticks are gross, I hate them too. Not to mention they can carry disease, so you have to be careful!

Do you keep the grass cut short in your yard? Ticks love to hide in tall grass, so mowing the lawn often may help to cut down on the tick population. Also, do you have any oak trees in your yard? Here in northern Canada anyway, oak trees are almost always infested with ticks, especially in the spring. If you do have oak trees, you might consider having them professionally sprayed for pests.

If you want to use pesticides, I think some of the preparations for ants also work on ticks. I don't use any pesticides myself though, as I've also got children, 2 dogs and a cat and I don't want to expose them to that.

Do you have a Farm Store, Agricultural Agent, or any type of Farm Products store in your local area? If so, tell them the problem. Also, if a Lowe's store around, they could probably help you, too, with what to use. Might be a "dust" type of powder to spread around on the lawn, instead of a spray.
If you don't want your lawn sprayed by a Professional, you can do it yourself. After talking with someone at a Store, buy a gallon hand sprayer, and any product that says "kill ticks". Mix according to directions, and spray your yard. Keep the kids off the yard for a day or two.
The same goes for fleas. Once fleas get into a lawn, it's hard to get rid of them, without using a sprayer with pesticides of some type. That's what pesticides are for.

To assist the removal of ticks from people and dogs, check out the "Tick Twister". It consists of two sizes of a plastic slotted crowbar that slides between the tick and its host. Gently pull and twist for speedy removal of the disgusting parasite. With that you don't squeeze the nasty stuff from the tick back into the host. It is made with $.01 worth of plastic; sells for about $5.00, but is worth the price.
