    Brass to PVC
Should teflon tape be used when connecting brass to PVC? What about plumber's putty? Just dry?

Plumbers putty is used as a seal for drain lips, we don't use it for pipe compound. Use Teflon Tape on all threaded joints. Use three turns wrapped counterclockwise around the male threads. Good luck, Tom

When I saw Tom's "Use three turns wrapped counterclockwise " it dawned on me that a non plumber DIYer might need fuller directions. Hold the male threaded piece in your left hand and point the threaded end toward your face, wrap 3 wraps clockwise. The whole issue of clockwise or counterclockwise depends on how you are holding the pipe.

Bob's bang on, Hold the threads pointed at you. When applying Teflon tape, wrap it in the direction that the fixture will be tightened. If the tape is wrapped in the opposite direction, it may tear when the fixture is installed on the threads, and thus will be ineffective at preventing leaks. Good luck, Tom

I think you meant "Pipe Dope" not "Plumber's Putty". Putty is not used on pipe threads.

In any case, you don't connect Brass to PVC - but PVC to Brass. That means, you screw PVC male adapter into female Brass fitting.

Some pipe sealants contain certain chemicals that will soften PVC threads eventually producing leak. However, there are some Teflon based Pipe Sealants that are safe on PVC. They are quite expensive.

Teflon tape is the best thread sealant for PVC.
