I am a widow my husband died in June 2007 I live with my 41-year old son who is single. At times he is very mean and verbally abusive to me he has not hit me so far but I am afraid it may happen I have no money except my social security retirement which is less then $1300. A month I do pay my son rent not much but I feel it is better then nothing. Where can I go for help thank you

Many of them go according to your income.

Does your town/municipality have some kind of government assistance? Maybe you can look into that and see if they can give you some options. Do you have any friends that no longer have their husbands? Maybe you can live with her? Try and get a few women together, (think "Golden Girls") and the rent will be cheaper split between you all.

Almost every community has a low income housing, there is a waiting list but you get your name on it. You check with senior centers for other seniors looking for someone to share an apartment with.

And if in risk, go to a women's shelter, check with your place of worship to see if there is assistance there.
