My toilet flange sits on top of the marble floor and they used mortar to level it out 25 years ago. Went to replace toilet and just found out this lovely surprise its pvc glued in concrete can I just shim it out or even lay tile under the toilet for support will this work thanks for any help

I read both your posts and remain a bit confused but let me take a shot. The flange can be flush with the floor surface or it can besitting on top of the floor surface. The wax ring will absorb that much space. I don't think your PVC drain is glued to the concrete but it is likely poured right up to and around the pipe. You should have tile right up to the flange or even under the flange, either works. Let me know if I skipped any part of your question.

Don't exactly understand your dilemma, but: if your toilet ring is too low, than either install Oatey's Spacer Rings ( closet ring extensions ) or double up on your wax rings.

I had the same problem a few months ago installed a thicker wax and it worked for me, home depot has the thicker waxes rings, Thanks.

Everybody has assumed the flange sets too low and advised a thicker wax ring or a set of flange extenders. He says

so I have a different take on it. If the PVC flange is so high that the bowl needs to be shimed to set it I would cut the PVC raiser flush with the floor and install a inside flange.

Not everyone thought the flange was too low. I read both posts by this person and the dilema is not clear so I gave instructions on how the flange and tile should meet. If this person is just replacing a toilet there really should be no issue, if the old toilet was set correctly so to will the new toilet.

Ballengerb thanks for your help I put the new toilet on for fitting with no wax ring and had just a slight wobble with the wax ring on should I install it and just add some caulk around the perimeter before install thanks again for all your help

No! Shim the bowl up so there's no "rock or wobble" before you tighten up the closet bolts. If the bowl rocks then you stand a chance of rupturing the wax seal. After you shim it up then you can caulk. Good luck, Tom

Tom nailed the wobble issue, shim with plastic shims and then the caulk is mostly for looks. You might want to read the labels on the tubes of caulk, marble doesn't like some petroleum based caulks so stick with silicone like Daps Kwik Seal. DAP Products - Caulks, Sealants, Adhesives, Repair and Floor Covering

Use "Alex" blue label painter's caulk. They sell them in white and clear. Home Depot sells it for $1.98 a tube. It spreads easily a cleans with water. Don't work with 100% silicone caulks if you don't have any experience.
