She is still using the carpet. She's having problems with potty training. If I crater her and attach the litter box, will this also convince her to use the litter box when allowed out of the crate?

You should try wee wee pads, they're relatively inexpensive.

That's what she's been using, but only when she wants to. So I'm looking for another route. Hence the reason I asked about litter box training and crating.

Same thing here. I have a chihuahua. It took a year to potty train her. We had tried so many things as in... Puppy pads, rubbing her nose in the carpet, walking her dozens of times a day, putting spices in the floor, litter boxing, I mean so much! Then, It was real weird, She just stopped pottying everywhere! It was very odd but It worked. The thing is, is that it's a known fact that chihuahuas are the hardest the train. But I think that It's her growing up and then thinking like, "wait! I think they want me to use the green stuff outside." lol. Also, we have green carpet, so it kind of confusses her a bit. Well, If she is a year and a half now, I can't garentie that she will ever learn...Chihuahuas are very stubern to deal with. So It MAY work, just keep doing what your doing. (BTW Puppy pads are not that good to use)

Why are they not that good to use?

Well, Using something like a litter box (with newspaper or something in It.) is just as good and is not as high. I have used it and it never works for me. My neighber also used It, but she said It didn't work either.

I am using a litter box now, and that is not working... the pee pads have been better than the box. But still not 100% effective. And what do you mean "they are not as high"?

I mean IDk where you live but her in sc they are like 8 bucks, and news paper on a container lid is not that high. I mean It might work for your pup. It's just It has not worked for me. Also another thing that you could do is watch your pup, and if you see her tempting and is about to do it, Make a rlly loud noise to distract her. If you could do that a few times It might help. Also with chihuahuas, they have very small bladders. Giving a chihuahua about like 2 or three bowls of water a day is like 10 tiny chihuahua bladders. So they need to be walked often. It's what you have to go through if you have a chihuahua, becouse they are so small. Also if you dog is prone to be nervouse Like alot of chihuahuas are, they might tinckle a little.

That might would help. Reward her if she uses it with a treat, or a nice soft stroke.

By high, I assume you mean expensive. I'm not worried about expense, I'm trying to potty train my dog, not save money.
And I'm sorry but scaring into not peeing in a spot where I can't see her won't make her go on the pad, it'll make her go on the carpet in another place.

I work a lot, and she needs to know where to go potty when indoors, when I'm not there. She gets walked plenty.

Ah, I see. I don't want to sound rude, but You have to do alot with a Chihuahua. It takes alot of time. You could put in her favorite "WEE WEE" spots spread a mixture between chili powder, and pepper. It worked for a dog Of mine.

I understand that they need a lot of care, and she gets it. But I have to work to pay bills, and be able to afford to give her good care. My dog is very well taken care of. Chili powder is red, I'm not spreading that on my white carpet in a rental apartment, not the smartest idea, sorry. She has 5 pee pads over the living room (which is her area).

Okay, here's another thing. At doller stores you could buy this white powder that has sweet smells, and might make her not want to go. By scaring her is what you may have to do. The thing is, is that you make it where she can't see you, and she might think that the carpet is like scaring her, Not you. It might make her think about using the wee wee pads.

Also right after she eats, You could put her on the pad. But, she may not even be trainible. If she also Poops on the floor put the pile on one of the pads and show It to her and let her smell it.

Hmmm, my Chihuahua is almost a year old. Potty pads for dogs caused her to quit using her paper but human pee pads work like a charm. She will use newspaper or a human pad 90% of the time. (Human pads are the large things that get put on a bed when someone is incontinent.) Positive reinforcement has not had much of an impact on her although I do give her treats when she uses her paper.

Yes she uses the carpet once in a while. I caught her going on my bed and guess I scared the heck out of her 'cause she hasn't done it again. I've yelled when she goes somewhere she shouldn't (while she's committing the offense) and the behavior has not been repeated in that spot. She can hold it "forever" if she's on my bed. But my dog is very sensitive to loud noises, like yelling. The dropping of scary, loud objects, like a box of tissue is an excellent attention-getter. Be sure that she only gets in trouble if caught in the act, even then, she may not fully understand, but she may hesitate before doing it again.
