Black pigmented spots on innerlining of my lips and lower gums
    Hi,

I have recently observed black pigmented spots on the inner side (inner lining ) of my lower lip and gums. When I asked a dentist they told that its called "IRON LIP" and they said its common.
But still I am not satisfied. Does any one know about this "iron lip" if so could u please tell me what it is and is it dangerous in the course of time.

    Thanks

It's not uncommon to find dark pigment in the mouth. It causes no harm but you should check it regularly to make sure it doesn't change colour or size. I must say, I have never heard it called "iron lip"!

Vbreddy -- I wrote this in a reply to someone else on this message board... but I am an african american and was treated for this not to long ago. I am told that it is common if you have darker skin to have pigmented gums...

You you should contact a specialist who can help treat your dark gums... dentists / gum specialists / periodontists can help but most of them don't treat pigmented gums... so I looked extensively for someone that specializes in treating pigmented and dark gums... in the end I had my gums treated by Dr Farnoosh in beverly hills, Ca. This really helped me feel more comfortable smiling... he basically invented the procedure and was published extensively for it... I liked him he was very compassionate and it didn't hurt at all. He treats lots of celebrities in beverly hills...

You might want to look at his website at this link (below):
