Hello my son had extra teeth and at age 7 he had his baby teeth with would not come out on his own and his extra front teeth pulled( out 2 front teeth 2 extra in gum.) He got braces put in one tooth cam in fine and we were waiting for the other it now appears it needs help I'm told. They want to have an oral surgeon put a hole in his gum and put a chain likr thing up to grab the tooth and bring it down. Does this work or what are the odds I'm thinking the root id dead. Im told if this doesn't work the tooth will have to be removed and a fake one put in? Should I put him through this chain thing? He's now 12

He is not going to thank you for the extra hadware in his mouth while the tooth is coming down, and unless you have some insurance to cover the procedure it is going to be expensive, probably more expensive then just having a 'peg' tooth put when he is old enough to have that done.

Is this your dentist or orthodonitist recommending this treatment? It's not an uncommon procedure and I have seen excellent results. Sometimes an impacted tooth just needs some help to come in in the right spot.
