Evaporator was replaced with a bigger unit.
My evaporator unit was replaced by a A/C Pro. He installed a 17.5 inch box on top of my 15.5 Furnace. Can this be done? Is this the right thing to do? There is a lot of silver tape. The unit is off center and I am concerned that the air flow and cooling is reduced. The new evaporator is marked for the same tonnage as the old one was. The temperature at the registers is lower by 5 or 6 degrees.

What was/is the seer rating of the condenser verses the evap.coil, tonage does matter, but if you (for instance) have a 13 seer a/c and a 10 seer evap coil, you going to have problems, maybe not today but it will happen

    Yes

I bet it is. Probably did not use a expansion valve but used a cheap flow rater.

Newer coil is larger in capacity since all the new units are more efficient. Using a expansion valve helps to feed this coil properly with refrigerant.

Thanks for the comments. I miss stated the temp change. After the work was done the temp at the register is 5 to 6 degrees higher.
