Being served in the state of Georgia
    Hello,

Over the years, I have accrued terrible debt. I used to have a decent income but since the constrction crisis my income has suffered. Yesterday a deputy attempted to serve me papers for some kind of debt (?) at my old address. I don't live there anymore but do know the people that live there now. I spoke to the deputy latter that day over the phone and told him I would pick up the documents at the civil division of the court house today. Since then I have been debating if I should ifnor the papers or pick them up. After all I don't even live in that county anymore. Can I still be sued if I don't answer or receive the papers? Also I have so much debt that I am seriously considering filing chapter 7. Would this get rid of debts and judments against me? Thank you.

The purpose of serving you a summons is to make you aware that a suit has been entered against you. As long as they can prove you were aware of this suit, then they can proceed with the suit. Dodging the process server is not an effective technique get the papers.
