When the father is not home, the mother is entertaining men and sending the children upstairs during the time. She keeps a filthy house, the 8 year old is constantly having to tend to her sisters, 2 and 5. This is per the 8 year old. How do you prove this. Only the 2 youngest are by this father. Father of 8 year old is currently in jail. I don't know what to do. Can't leave children in this atmosphere. But don't want them in foster care either. She has sent the older two to swimming pool in apartment complex without adult supervision. There is no lifeguard. Witnessed by great grandmother. Son, the father rarely is at home. Loves all the children but too much marital problems. I am the grandmother and would take them rather than have them live like this. I believe the 8 year old. She would have no reason to come up with a statement like that. Right now if confronted I am sure the mother would deny everything. I would call social services but afraid they would put them in foster care. What do I do?

Hello. Look I can tell that possibley the mother is lonely.. Or depressed. You need to talk to her about these problems. Also you need to talk to the children.. See how they feel, and what they're experiencing. You should have a family meeting possibly, And contact the father. If that is possible, and maybe the children can stay with a family member, while the parents go o some sort of marriage comseling. Last but not least.. the last resort would be calling Social Services, but if that is what it ends up needed to be done.. Then that's what those small children need. Help. If the children are in danger, then you must report this before they get hurt. That's the bottom line.

If the mother is simply neglectful, then you can try to talk to her but I'm not sure that will work.

You have no legal standing in this; it's the father's decision if he wants to retain an Attorney and try to get sole custody.
