I have just contacted my daughter through myspace. It has been about 13 years since I was involved in her life at all. Approximately 6 yrs ago I contacted her mother to try to pay support, but she refused my help and wanted nothing from me. I don't blame her for her hostility towards me. I know I was wrong for disappearing. I am a recovered Alcoholic, I've been sober for over 7yrs now. I want to have a relationship with my daughter. I know it will be some time, if ever before she trusts me enough for a real relationship. I was just hoping someone might know some books I could read about the topic and maybe get some guidance. She and I have been emailing almost daily, so it is going well, but I would still like some help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there any books about how to communicate with a 16 year old girl? It would be better if it related to my situation.

Ask her what she has been up to. What she enjoys. What her hopes and dreams are in life.
Tell her you are sorry for the way things went. Do not say anything negative about her mom.
Ask her if and how you can make up things to her.
