My husband and I have a 2 year old Min Pin. He is house trained, but he was hit by a car and sometimes has accidents. He's not all there. When we are home, he LOVES being in his crate, under a blanket. At night, and while we are gone, we keep him in the crate (we have a lot of antique furniture and rugs that he would just loooove to get his paw on!) I let him out in the morning, at lunch, and after work we play in our fenced in back yard. He goes out once more before bed around 10. Recently (the past three days) when I return home, he has peed and pooped in his crate. This has NEVER been a problem. I have had to remove his bed and all blankets from his crate, because he urinates in them, and then sleeps on them! EVERYDAY when I return from work and EVERY MORNING when we wake up! He has plenty of time outside to use the bathroom. Why is he doing this? Is he trying to get attention? Establish dominance? I'm at the end of my rope, I'm so frustrated. Please help!

Dogs normally never will urinate in their bedding unless circumstances, such as being left there abnormal times, they will not foul their bed.
Get him to a vet--something is terribly wrong with his insides. The accident with the car might have damaged a nerve that conrols his bladder control.
Medication might just be able to fix.

To that: if you can discover the name of the medication, you might ask the vet to give you a prescription and you might be able to get such medication --either over the counter or prescribed by a pharmacist.
The vet might refuse to give you a prscription---he gains much from selling such from his own stock. If you can find the name of the drug, you might try to find it on the drug store shelf or ask the pharmacist before paying the vet for the same drug.

My first question is: How long after the accident did the crate messing problem arise? This should help you determine whether the two causes are linked. It may be helpful to speak with a vet via phone at least.

If this is not a medical question, then you may need to look at alternate ways of keeping your Min Pin secured while you are gone. Dogs have been known to mess in their crates out of frustration. Min Pin's are fairly energetic breeds and usually require quite a bit of running around time. And two is often a very energetic age! He may not like being crated for so much of the day. Is there a way you could either keep him in the kitchen/laundry room (use baby gates) or build a dog run in the back yard?
