    Sump pump, where to drain.
Hello everyone, I don't know much about sump pumps and would like some advice. Here's the background. I bought this house a month ago. It was built in 1993. I noticed the sump was draining under the deck and not away from the house. I pulled the boards off the side of the deck to investigate. There was a pipe coming up from the ground where the water was coming out and another pipe just above it going back into the house. It looked as though they had disconnected from each other. OK here is the question: do I just reconnect them... why is the water going back in the house... or should I cap the top pipe and run the bottom pipe (where the water is being pumped out) away from the house? I don't know where all of that water is going if I just reconnect the existing pipes. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this matter. Thanks so much

Connect some pipe to the sump pump pipe (coming up out of the ground) to take the water away from the house. Can't imagine what the pipe going back into the house could be for unless someone had to change the sump pipe piping to accommodate building the deck and just left some abandon pipe in the wall.
