Pump was here when we moved in 18 yrs ago, not sure how old it is. We are on well water. About 6 months ago water started (after 5 seconds of running)spitting and sputtering out of hot water faucet. My husband asked several people about the air in the pipes and they said they never heard of such a thing. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions? My husband is on disability and hard for him to do something's. Do we need a plumber? Thanks for your time. Pam S.

I don't think it is pump related problem. If it was, than you would have same "spitting and sputtering" out of your cold water side, too. It would first look at your water heater. See, if thermostat is set to average temperature ( one of the fat red marks on thermostat dial ).

Do you get very hot, almost boiling hot, water out of this faucet ? Do you have a booster heater connected to your pl. system? Does this happen in every faucet in your house ?

Milo, Thank you for a quick response. To answer your questions. There is no booster and the water that comes out is extremely hot. The only faucet that the spitting doesn't come out on is the tub. The sink in the kitchen and the sink in the bathroom are the only ones it seems to be doing it with. Thnaks again for all your help. Greatly appreciated. Pam

Electric or gas water heater? What is temperature setting? When is the last time water was flushed.

Electric water heater. The temperature is at 120. Last fall was last time it was flushed.Thanks for your help.Pam

Spitting hot water can be caused by a dip tube in the heater that has come away but the water is usually a little cooler than normal when this happens. I'd go withg Harold thinking and flush the heater if for no other reason than to eliminate that issue. Flush by leaving the main supply on full and attach a hose the drain spigot at the bottom of the tank. Direct the hose outside or down a drain, flush for at least 3-5 minutes or until the water runs perfectly clear.

If you have extremely hot water you must have a faulty thermostat. Replace.
