Okay so Im on probabtion for a first time offese felony and I want to go to school in Louisiana, I registered and asked my Probabtion officer and she said I couldn't because I have no immediate family. But I'm 19, I have a place to live and a job already. It's seems like she's just being lazy! I really need help asap

It's up to your PO whether you can get permission to leave your State or not - and she has already said no, possibly because it's a felony charge.

How far into probation are you and have you met the other terms?

I had 3 years but only had to stay on until I completed everything. I finished my Community service and only have restitution to pay because it's really high. I guess I just didn't understand how everyon is saying if you have a joband a place to live you can transfer but she is saying no. Im an adult why do I have to live near family?! It's really frustrating me.

Your PO gets to make the rules. Pay the restitution, get off probation, go wherever you want.

So she just gets to make up whatever rules she wants no matter what the state law is ?

    Hello again, shop:

If you read the rules for transferring probation, and it didn't say that you need to LIVE with a family member, then there isn't such a requirement. Plus, I'm certain YOUR rules DON'T have such a requirement. Such a rule would make no sense. There ARE adults on probation who DON'T live with a family member.

I don't think you actually READ the rules I'm talking about.

Does the State law say that the PO has to agree to transfer your probation and you don't have to live with a family member? Is that what you're saying, that the State law specifically addresses this situation - ?

I would guess the PO doesn't want you to live without parental or family supervision.

What was the felony conviction for?

There were 3 I think fraud, burglary and grand theft... nothing drug related. I mean is it because I'll be living with my boyfriend maybe?

I have no idea why the PO wants you to live with family. Have you asked the PO?
