    New flange to lead
Replacing a toilet and putting tile on cellar floor. Waste line is lead in concrete floor. Have read that flange needs to go on top of new tile. Does flange slide over outside of lead pipe? What do I then do with lead that sticks up? Bend it over flange? Will wax seal then seal everything? Thanks

What I would do is very carefully flare the lead out on the tile. Now take your closet flange and place it iver the flared lead and secure it to the floor using TAPCons or plastic inserts and screws. You may now set the toilet in the usual way. Back in the old days we had no closet flanges. We flared out the lead pipe and put a rope of plumbers putty down for a seal. We then screwed the toilet bowl directly to the floor. We did this until flanges came out. Just thought I'd give you a little plumbing history lesson.
    Cheers, Tom
