    Wrong income on W-2
    Dear AtlantaTaxExpert,

I've a question for my friend. He worked for 2 different companies in 2005. He worked for Company1 for the month of January and company2 for rest of 11 months. But the company1 issued him a W2 showing that he worked there for 4 months and earned equivalent wages. In actual, he worked there only for a month. Company1 is not willing to re-issue the correct W-2. What should he do now?

    Thanks in advance,

Are you saying the W2 is showing 4 times the true amount of income ?

    And they won't correct the W2 ?

Are they showing false withholdings also ? 4 times the tax withheld ?

If they won't, you have little choice but to use the correct information, and attach a letter explaining that the W2 has false information on it, and that the employer refused to correct it.

Send a copy of the letter also to the employer, since they will have to answer to the IRS about it. But also expect them to contact you.

    Hi,
As the above answer said, use the W2 that is incorrect. But, when filling out your taxes, use your ACTUAL income from that company, if you have your last paycheck stub, showing your actual income, plus withholding taxes, etc.
Send a copy of that paycheck stub with your taxes, with your explanation.
    Best of luck.
