:D my son danny who is 51/2 has two teeth that are loose (the two middle bottom). I know it is early but he did get his teeth early, starting at 21/2 months. Anyway how did you handle the whole tooth fairy thing? I just want to be prepared. Any help?

Any ideas?

It's no big deal. Put the teeth under the pillow and when he's asleep, replace the teeth with money. I'm not sure if this is the answer that you were looking for. But this is how I was the tooth fairy.

Well, the first lost tooth, my son was 5 too, was worth a LOT of money because he pulled it out himself. So, $5 was what he got. He now gets $2 or $3 for every lost tooth. I also have a little tooth box, forgot where I got it, that he puts his tooth in and under the pillow, so that the tooth doesn't just slip away.

Wow, talk about inflation J_9! My kids got ripped off by the tooth fairy... LOL When they lost teeth, back in the "old days"... :), the first tooth got more, but after that it was usually a quarter or two per tooth.
I have saved several of their teeth, which my husband thinks is just weird, and also some of the notes they wrote to the tooth fairy. Sometimes the tooth fairy also left a trail of fairy dust, so we have some of that still with the teeth and notes.

Whar did the notes say? Whar did you use as fairy dust?

I would put the tooth under my pillow in a little pillow made especially for that sort of thing (about the size of a notecard with a fairy stitched into it and a pocket under her sleeve to put the tooth) and my parents would sneak in while I was asleep and put a rolled up dollar in the pocket. One time they forgot, and told me that the toothfairy was super busy and she'd get it the next night, which she did =D. Good luck.

Fairy dust can be easily made. I also make "reindeer food" at christmas. A little oatmeal and some sparkles all mixed together.

Yeah, Doula, teeth got as expensive as gas these days. Glad I can finally afford it. Hehe

My daughter is also 5 1/2 and she just lost her frist tooth on the bottom we mad a big deal about it because she was so young and scared we talked allot about the tooth fairy and put it under her pillow let her know that the tooth fiary will come to get it when he is sleeping and leave her money since it was her frist tooth we gave her 5.00 and then was allowed to go to the store like target the next day since they have those eat dollar isles not sure they have them in al states but the target ones have much nicer stuff then the dollar stores and she was able to spend it there this made it a little easier for her after she saw how many things she could buy now she can't wate till her next tooth comes out and is very excited for another one

Five & a half is not that early for losing teeth. I'm a substitute teacher and kindergarten classes are full of "toothless" kids! LOL As for the tooth fairy--I've got two girls 18 & 11. The 11 year old still "believes" in the tooth fairy--it's a fun thing. We've done it two ways... leave the tooth in a sealed envelope (all white) and put it under the pillow. The tooth fairy is "allowed" to rip the envelope and retrieve the tooth and leave some money. I'm like a lot of people here--teeth used to be worth a quarter or so when I was a kid--but a put a couple of dollars in the envelope. I'm not into huge amounts of money. Sometimes for little children, money in coins is more impressive--maybe 6 or 8 quarters... they think it is more and more fun to count than a couple of dollar bills. I've also used a little "fairy" pouch--which was nothing more than a tiny drawstring bag that came with a book we used to have about the tooth fairy making stars out of children's' lost teeth. Look for such a book in a bookstore... it makes a more fun.

And yes, the tooth fairy forgot once... very busy is a good cover story... just don't forget twice!

If your worried about him waking up to you being there with the money & getting his tooth, maybe tell him to put it in a jar & tell him to put it on the window sill or something and in the morning the tooth fairy would have been and exchanged the tooth for money, because she likes to collect little children's teeth :p

We make a big deal about the tooth fairy at our house. (My daughter freaks out at the sight of her own blood, so she gets pretty upset with the whole tooth pulling process)
Anyway...

She has a tooth pillow, which is just a tiny pillow with a pocket on the front that holds the tooth. We aren't that good at being quiet, so she has never left the tooth under her pillow - it goes on her night stand.
After she goes to bed, I type out a letter telling her how proud the tooth fairy is of her, pick out a detail from the pulling and tell her how brave she is. Then the tooth fairy tells her to remember to brush and floss twice a day to keep her teeth healthy. I have even made mention of dentist appointments that may not have gone well, so she remembers to take extra good care of her teeth.
I found a tooth fairy graphic on the computer and add that as well.
When I am done, I paste the letter to a piece of construction paper and use glitter glue for fairy dust.
I use plain glitter for her fairy dust, just the really fine kind. I sprinkle it outside of her door, all by the pillow and letter and if I am feeling lucky, I sprinkle some around her.

We pay $5 a tooth. For her front tooth (I call the money tooth) - we gave her $20.
Luckily she only had one (the other was pulled when she was a baby)

I remember that when I lost a tooth I would put it into a ziploc bag and then my parents would just switch out the tooth with 2 or 3 dollars after the first time but the first time I got $5. It is easiest if you can switch out the tooth with money when your kid goes and takes a shower if they shower at night but if they shower in the morning then you just have to switch it out carefully.
